Kevin Bennett

Creative designer and photographer — Alaska landscapes, fisheries, and visual systems

Background

Kevin Bennett is the owner of KB Design + Photo, based in Anchorage. For over two decades he has combined photography, film, web design, and data visualization to document Alaska and support organizations that operate in real-world conditions. His work bridges creative production and technical infrastructure—from institutional rebrands and 360° Google Street View tours to the Alaska Fish Count App, a statewide real-time fisheries data platform.

Photo History

Documentary work in Alaska since the early 2000s. Early projects included coastal community documentation for CIRI and time-lapse studies of glacial change. Transitioned to full-frame mirrorless (Nikon Z8, Canon EOS R5) for landscape and wildlife. Built alaskafishcounts.com in 2019 to make salmon-count data accessible; the platform now serves statewide ADF&G real-time counts.

Methods

Kevin approaches creative work as a system: understanding context, constraints, and what the work needs to do. He favors clarity over novelty—photography and design built to be understandable, durable, and honest. Workflow includes field documentation, high-resolution digital capture, 4K time-lapses (including Northern Lights), and digital platforms that make public data accessible.

Goals

To make things understandable, durable, and honest. Whether documenting landscapes and communities, visualizing fisheries data, or stewarding visual archives for institutions, the aim is to create work that holds up over time and serves researchers, educators, anglers, and the public.

Connection to Alaska

Based in Anchorage since his teens (Highland Tech High, then UAA). Long-term work with Alaska organizations including Cook Inlet Region Inc. (CIRI), Alaska Center for Performing Arts, and UAA Alaska AHEC. Creator of alaskafishcounts.com, a statewide ADF&G salmon-count platform. Google Trusted Photographer for Alaska 360° virtual tours.
